Overview

Exterior painting that protects the building, not just decorates it

Exterior paint is the cheapest weatherproofing money can buy, but only if the prep is done correctly and the right product goes onto the right substrate.

We paint render, pebbledash, brick, smooth and rough masonry, render-on-block extensions, soffits and fascias, weatherboarded gables, garage doors, exterior joinery, front doors, gutters, downpipes and porch ceilings: across Bracknell, Ascot, Reading, Windsor and the wider Berkshire area.

Homeowners commission exterior repaints when they're preparing to sell, when render is starting to spall or craze, when peeling paint is letting damp into the wall, or simply when a previously cream property needs to come into a more contemporary off-white or warm grey.

An exterior failure isn't cosmetic. Cracked, blown or non-breathable coatings hold water against the masonry, and trapped water during a freeze-thaw cycle is how spalling, deeper cracking, frost-blow and eventually structural repointing bills happen. The right exterior coating, applied at the right time of year, prevents all of that.

Don't ignore this

What happens when exterior paint is ignored, or rushed

Most exterior failures we're asked to rescue weren't caused by old age. They were caused by a previous coat that was applied without proper prep, in the wrong product, at the wrong time of year.

Trapped damp behind the coating

A plastic, non-breathable masonry paint over wet or rising-damp-affected brickwork seals moisture inside the wall. The damp pushes outward through any weak point, and lifts the coating off in sheets.

Frost-blow and spalling brickwork

Cracked or unsealed render and masonry let water in. The next freeze expands that water and pops the face off the substrate, turning a £2,000 repaint into a £6,000 repaint-plus-repointing job.

Peeling joinery and rotten window frames

Bare or under-primed timber drinks water and rots from the inside. Window cills, fascia ends and bargeboards are usually the first to go, and they're the most expensive to replace.

Premature recoating

A cheap exterior repaint is typically failing inside two to three years. A properly specified one lasts eight to twelve. The difference is preparation, not paint.

Our Process

A clear sequence,no guesswork, no chaos.

  1. 01

    Survey & weather window

Site visit, substrate testing, identification of any structural issues, and agreement of a fixed quote and weather window, exterior work is scheduled when the forecast allows clean drying.

  2. 02

    Pressure-wash & stabilise

Full pressure-wash to remove dirt, algae, loose coating and biological growth. Stabilising solution applied to friable surfaces; fungicidal wash where needed.

  3. 03

    Repair & prime

Cracks raked out and filled with breathable exterior filler; defective render patched; bare timber primed; metalwork sanded back and given a rust-inhibiting primer.

  4. 04

    Coating application

Breathable smooth masonry coating or pliolite-based product applied in two full coats by brush, roller or spray with full masking. Joinery taken back to a uniform key and finished in three coats of exterior eggshell.

  5. 05

    Final walk & guarantee

Walk-around inspection, cleardown, written record of products used, and a five-year workmanship guarantee from completion.

Benefits

What you actually get,not vague promises.

Ten-year service life

Correctly specified breathable masonry coatings on properly prepared substrates routinely deliver eight to twelve years of weather protection.

Lower long-term maintenance

Repaint cycles every decade rather than every three years saves several thousand pounds over a typical homeowner's tenure.

Protected joinery & masonry

Frames, fascias, cills and render are sealed against the worst of winter, preventing rot, spalling and water ingress before it starts.

Higher kerb appeal & sale value

Estate agents in Berkshire consistently report that fresh exterior decoration is the single highest-ROI pre-sale improvement.

Safe at height

Towers, ladders and access platforms used in line with IPAF training: no homeowner left worrying about decorators on the roof.

Fixed price, weather-aware schedule

We won't start a coat in a bad weather window. The price doesn't change because the forecast does.

In Depth

The detail behindthe finished result.

Coatings we specify

On render and masonry we typically specify breathable smooth coatings such as Dulux Weathershield Smooth Masonry, Sandtex 365 or, where a more traditional flatter look is wanted, a pliolite-based system. Where a property is solid-wall construction or known to suffer historic damp we move to a mineral or silicate paint that lets the wall breathe outward.

Joinery is taken back, primed with an aluminium-bound exterior primer where appropriate, and finished in three coats of Dulux Weathershield exterior gloss or eggshell. Metalwork, gutters, downpipes, railings, is finished in a direct-to-metal coating after a rust-inhibiting primer.

What we paint and what we won't

We routinely paint render, pebbledash, smooth and rough cast, K-rend (with the appropriate compatible coating), brick (with caveats: we'll discuss honestly whether you should), weatherboarding, exterior cladding, soffit and fascia boards, bargeboards, garage doors, front doors, window joinery, porches, conservatory frames, and steel railings.

We won't paint over actively moving render cracks without a proper repair, we won't paint a damp wall and call it sealed, and we won't apply plastic coatings to a property that has historically breathed. Where we can't recommend the work in good faith, we'll say so.

Access & safety

Most domestic exteriors are reached safely from a combination of extension ladders, a domestic scaffold tower and roof ladders for access to high gables. For larger properties or town houses over three storeys we hire a cherry picker or scaffold for the duration of the job. All work at height is conducted in line with IPAF and PASMA training.

Season & weather windows

British exterior painting is realistic from late March through to late October. Below 8°C surface temperature most masonry products won't cure correctly, and damp substrates lead to early failure. We will not start an exterior coat if rain is forecast within four hours of finishing.

Common Questions

Everything you needbefore we start.

How long does exterior painting take on a typical house?

A standard three-bed semi in Bracknell usually takes four to six working days including pressure-washing, drying time, repair, and two full coats. Larger detached properties run seven to ten days.

When can exterior painting be done?

Realistically between late March and late October in the UK. Surface temperature needs to stay above 8°C during application and curing, and we won't start a coat if rain is forecast inside four hours.

How long will exterior paint last?

A correctly prepared and specified system on render or masonry typically lasts eight to twelve years. Cheap or poorly prepared coatings often start failing inside three.

Do you repair cracks and render damage?

Yes, minor cracking, blown patches and small areas of failed render are repaired as part of the standard quote. Larger structural render repairs are quoted separately so you know exactly what you're paying for.

Do you pressure-wash before painting?

Always. Painting over algae, dirt or loose existing coating is the single most common cause of premature failure. Full pressure-wash and biocide treatment are included in every exterior quote.

Can you paint K-rend or coloured render?

Yes, with the right compatible coating system. K-rend in particular needs careful product selection, we'll specify the correct system at quote stage.

Will you paint our garage door, front door and gutters?

Yes: exterior joinery, doors, frames, gutters and downpipes can be included. They're each specified with the correct primer and finish coat for their substrate.

What guarantee do you offer on exterior work?

Five years' workmanship guarantee from completion. Manufacturer product warranties apply on top, typically a further ten years on breathable masonry coatings.

Are you insured for work at height?

Yes, £5 million public liability insurance and IPAF/PASMA training for all access at height.

Do you serve my area?

Yes, exterior painting is offered across Bracknell, Ascot, Reading, Windsor, Binfield, Wokingham, Maidenhead, Oxford and Guildford.
