Overview

Decorating, not just painting: every finish on one specification

Decorating is what you call it when painting alone won't do the job. When wallpaper, panelling, cornice and woodwork all have to land at the same finish standard, and have to relate to each other visually.

We provide a full decorating service across Bracknell, Ascot, Wokingham, Reading, Windsor and the wider Berkshire area. The work brings together every interior finishing trade, painting, wallpapering, MDF panelling and feature walls, coving and cornice installation, wood staining and varnishing, and the co-ordination required to deliver them as one finished room rather than a series of separate visits.

We're typically commissioned when a homeowner wants a whole-room or whole-house refresh and doesn't want to project-manage three separate trades. Equally often we work alongside designers and architects who want one finishing contractor to deliver the whole interior specification.

The advantage of a full-service decorator is sequencing. Coving goes in before paint, paper goes up before woodwork is finished, panelling is set out before cornice runs are cut. Coordinating that sequence is what turns a 'painted room' into a properly finished one, and it's almost impossible to achieve when you're hiring three different one-trade contractors.

Don't ignore this

Why uncoordinated decorating ends up costing more

The most common problem we're asked to fix on a 'decorated' room isn't bad paint: it's bad sequencing.

Trades arriving in the wrong order

Wallpaper hung before coving is fitted means cornice cuts ruin the paper at the top. Woodwork painted before walls means cutting-in lines fight each other.

Inconsistent finish standards

Paint by one person, paper by another, cornice by a third: each working to their own standard, leaving you with finishes that don't visually relate.

Make-good falling between contractors

Damage caused by one trade left for the next to fix, gaps caulked or not, and the eventual snag list growing rather than shrinking as the job progresses.

Design decisions deferred too long

Colours chosen after the panelling goes up, paper chosen after the woodwork is finished, and the resulting clashes living with you for the next ten years.

Our Process

A clear sequence,no guesswork, no chaos.

  1. 01

    Design & specification

Site visit, full-room or whole-house brief taken, colours and finishes agreed up-front, materials specified and sequencing planned before any work starts.

  2. 02

    Preparation & protection

Furniture moved and wrapped, floors dust-sheeted, fittings masked. Walls, ceilings and woodwork prepared to a uniform standard before any finish starts.

  3. 03

    Structural finishes first

Coving and panelling installed first: they affect every later coat. Cornice mitred, paneling set out, joints filled and sanded.

  4. 04

    Wall coverings & paint

Wallpaper hung where specified, paint applied to walls and ceilings, woodwork cut in by hand. Inter-coat sanding and denibbing throughout.

  5. 05

    Final detail & walk-through

Wood finishes, gloss and satinwood built up, feature walls completed, walk-through in raking daylight, snags rectified, and a written record of every product used handed over.

Benefits

What you actually get,not vague promises.

One specification, one crew

Every finish quoted together, every trade managed in-house, every decision sequenced properly.

Design consistency across the room

Colours, papers, cornice and woodwork co-ordinated up-front so the finished space reads as deliberate.

Faster overall delivery

A co-ordinated decorating job typically completes 20–30% faster than the same scope split between separate trades.

One point of accountability

If anything's wrong, there's no finger-pointing between contractors: one number to call.

Lower total cost

Shared mobilisation, protection and access across all the trades means lower combined cost than booking each separately.

Less disruption to family life

One mobilisation, one set of dust sheets, one continuous schedule rather than three separate visits spread over months.

In Depth

The detail behindthe finished result.

Trades brought together under decorating

Interior and exterior painting, wallpaper hanging and removal, MDF and pine panelling, feature wall design, coving and cornice installation, wood staining and varnishing, ceiling work and centre rose installation, sample-board colour consultation, and co-ordination with electricians, plasterers and joiners on related work where needed.

How we sequence a whole-house decoration

Major plaster repair first, followed by cornice installation while plaster is fresh. Lining paper hung where walls need it. Walls and ceilings primed and first-coated. Statement wallpapers hung. Woodwork stripped, primed and finished. Final wall coats. Detail items: feature walls, decorative trim, centre roses. Then snag walk-through.

Working with designers and architects

We're comfortable working from a designer's specification: colour schedule, paper schedule, panel drawings, cornice elevations. We hold a single project conversation with the designer or lead architect rather than passing decisions through the homeowner.

Common Questions

Everything you needbefore we start.

What's the difference between painting and decorating?

Painting is the application of paint. Decorating includes paint plus everything else: wallpaper, panelling, coving, wood finishing, and the co-ordination required to bring them together as one finished result.

Can you do just one room?

Yes, single-room full decoration is one of our most popular packages. We bring every finish under one quote rather than asking you to manage separate trades.

How long does a whole-house decoration take?

A three-bedroom semi typically runs ten to fifteen working days as a co-ordinated decoration. A larger four-to-five bed house is fifteen to twenty-five days.

Can we live in the house during work?

Yes: we sequence so that at least one bedroom and bathroom are always usable, dust-sheet down daily, and hoover before we leave.

Do you handle the design decisions or do I?

Either. Some clients arrive with a designer's specification ready. Others want our colour consultation, paper recommendations and panel-proportion advice as part of the package. Both are normal.

What about other trades?

We co-ordinate with trusted local electricians, plasterers and joiners where related work is needed (new sockets to suit a feature wall, plaster repair, bespoke joinery). Each is quoted separately and transparently.

Do you provide a written specification?

Yes, every quote includes a finish schedule: room-by-room paint products, paper brands, panel materials, cornice profiles. Nothing decided on the fly.

What guarantee do you offer?

Five years' workmanship across all decorating finishes, paint, paper, woodwork, panelling and cornice.

Do you serve my area?

Yes: full decorating service across Bracknell, Ascot, Reading, Windsor, Binfield, Wokingham, Maidenhead, Oxford and Guildford.
